Housing Illegal Immigrants
I am against illegal immigration. I am about border control, and using the National Guard to do the job, if need be. I support enforcing the law, and I try to follow in the footsteps of Christ.
The Bench Stone blog brought up the topic of housing illegal immigrants, and it caused me to think a little deeper on the issue.
Slavery was wrong, is wrong, and is rightfully illegal.
What Tim had brought up was whether or not housing an illegal immigrant was Biblically wrong or not. I couldn't help but think about slavery, and the underground railroad that helped the slaves escape. If it is wrong to house an illegal alien, was it not also wrong to free a slave?
What is the difference between to two? Slaves were not really considered Americans, let alone human. What makes one Biblically right, and one wrong, or do you think that they are one in the same?

I think there is a difference between the two. First, the issue of slavery led to the civil war where we became two nations. When Missouri was deciding to be a free state or slave state it brought up the issue in a lawful way.
Secondly, America has taken foreign people before when their native country was in turmoil. I now the situation Timm mentioned was illegals from Zimbabwe and I am not that familiar with their circumstance, but I don't know if the people are held in bondage such as the slaves were.
I also think that they are two different things. Salvery seems to go against God's Law/the teachings of the Bible. It was "legal," but clearly wrong. Slaves were people who were brought here against their will and forced to work.
Illegal immigrants are people who came here breaking fair and consistant laws. I know that they come here seeking a better life, but there is a fair path laid out to do that. I'm not making the same connection that you are making Layne.
Freeing the slaves did not put our country at risk like illegal immigration does. Illegal immigrants bring all of the horrible crimes we see in Mexico. Rape, gangs, drugs, etc. Sure, some come to work, but look at LA.
Timm makes a good point, too. We brought the slaves here against their will. The illegals are coming over by their own will, and breaking the law doing so. The very first thing they do coming to our country is break the law...do we have a biblical obligation to support that?
What about those here "illegally" who are trying to follow the rules, such as paying taxes (yes, some illegal immigrants do pay taxes).
Should we still try to force them to leave the nation, or try to assist them in becoming 'legal?'
Remember, America was started by a few "illegal immigrants" who invaded and stole another persons land and claimed it as our own.
Just a thought.
I prefer manipulated, not stolen.
We're a land founded on rebellion and being traitors to Britain.
Should we harbor rebels and traitors?
I wonder what the founding fathers would say.
